Throughout 2020 – and, Now: Into 2021

This project started in January 2020. The project involves two monthly Gatherings: A Daytime Gathering and an Evening Gathering.  Due to COVID, etc. we are extending the project as shown via this BLOG into 2021.  Projects for 2021 include selecting a pattern from a book (many are using the the K Fassett “Quilts in America” book for “inspiration” and using Other Fabric than the book discusses).

The 2020 Evening participant chose, over the year from the book: “Extraordinary Log Cabin Quilts by Judy Martin (2013) Crosley-Griffith Publishing Company, Inc and the Daytime participant was a BlockOFMonth theme (BOM) using quilt patterns such as the Reflected Harmony pattern from Wilmington Prints.

We will be updating this BLOG once in awhile – and, as our Gathering projects have a short-lives (for now: Through the calendar year 2020 and now as 2021 moves along), perhaps this BLOG helps us all interact.

We look forward to hearing from you and to your joining us in the Gatherings once a month at Bernina World of Sewing in Raleigh.

To participate, it is intended that you have purchased at Bernina World of Sewing the book involved with this project and, as well, the fabric for the projects used during this Gathering was purchased at Bernina World of Sewing.

    Hello – (From the Webmaster)
We have started this Weblog with the intent of providing the Gathering participants with a “sounding board” for their use.

Please remember that all Weblog entries are audited by me – however, this Weblog is NOT monitored by the store’s staff. Any technical questions, etc. are not meant for store’s-staff members: The Gathering is not a class – and, this Weblog is not a place to ask store staff questions!

Normally, you would start a “Reply” thread using the “Leave a Reply” box at the bottom of this Web page. Alternatively, you just click on the Reply button at the bottom of some existing entry.

    Some reminders:
    – To place a photo related to your efforts worked-on for the Gathering project, just send an eMail to me with the picture attached/included. I will figure out where you intend the photo for your particular Comment.
    – Contact me by eMail if you have any problems / concerns with ANYTHING related to the Weblog. Thank you.

    I wish you a GREAT 2021.

Good luck with your projects and
    Regards,
David – Webmaster at Bernina World of Sewing

December, 2020 and Continuing into 2021

    Hi, everyone!

I am glad that you found the BLOG. To make this work, it would be great if once in awhile you make a comment here or send in a photo for the BLOG. This way, we will all be “kept up” with each other’s progress – and problems/successes!

Both the Daytime and the Evening Gatherings lasted throughout the calendar year 2020 and, now (primarily due to COVID/etc.) will move into 2021.

Projects for 2021 will include selecting a pattern from a book (many are using the the K Fassett “Quilts in America” book for “inspiration” and using Other Fabric than the book discusses).

The Evening 2020 participant chose, over the year from the book: “Extraordinary Log Cabin Quilts” by Judy Martin (2013) Crosley-Griffith Publishing Company, Inc and the Daytime participant was a BlockOFMonth theme (BOM) using quilt patterns such as the Reflected Harmony pattern from Wilmington Prints.

To participate in this Gathering, you must be signed up at the store (Bernina World of Sewing). Space is limited!

We had the Evening Gathering on the second Monday evening of each month and the Daytime Gathering on the third Tuesday morning of each month through the end of the 2020 — and: We ZOOMed as we entered 2021.

I wish you some exciting / enjoyable sewing time and projects during the year!

    Sonja

    Moving on…
We have had some interaction related to my considering using the The K Fassett “Quilts in America” book for “inspiration” and using Other Fabric than the book discusses.

When the book arrived a year or so ago, David was fascinated to see a piece in the book that is very similar to one that hung on our living room wall for many years. I purchase our quilt in the early 1980s and the quilt was made in the 1870s. David loves the colors of the quilt and appreciated the workmanship – and the 1870’s fabric. He is sure the quilt/fabric has many stories to tell and when viewing the piece his imagination runs rampant….

Anyway – The following image is an overview of what can be envisioned as a project. Click, after the image, to see the collage in larger-sized images if you are interested.

I’m making the Contrast Columns quilt in the K Fassett book. I’m pulling from my scraps for the nine patches and purchased fabric for the setting triangles and columns. This is a fun quilt and I am really enjoying it.

Here’s a pic of my finished Gathering quilt #1 for 2021. It’s my take on the Kaffe Fasset Contrast Columns quilt from the Quilts in America book. I’m going to choose another one from this book for my next quilt. I love using my scraps and stash !!!

The name of it is “Columns” from the Kaffe Fasset book Quilts in America. I used all scraps for my nine patches, and purchased the background fabrics. Overall I love the colorful vibe and I’m very happy with it.

I’m doing the Kites pattern from Kaffe Fassett’s Quilts in America book. I quickly put this up on my design wall. I know this isn’t how the final layout will be as I’m not quite halfway finished, but it’s close.

    A New Project
    November 6, 2020
I bought my Jane Austen fabrics the other day for “Badge of Honor”. I’m going to try to figure out how to do it without the paper piecing. I found a few more fabrics at home, too, from when I made my Dear Jane that blend really well. I’m getting excited to dive in but I’m going to try to wait until after the holidays.
    See you all soon! Gale

The “Badge of Honor” pattern from Quilts in America done with mostly Jane Austin fabrics. I sewed up a couple blocks to see how I’d like it and I think I’m going to LOVE it. I’m not doing the paper piecing – just being very careful. Gale
