Welcome to the 2022 Gatherings at our store.
These projects started in January 2022 and we aim, during the first five months, that each Daytime participant completes a Blooming 9-Patch quilt and, throughout the year, the Evening participant completes quilts using “the ART of the QUILT 2022 Calendar”.
We will be updating this BLOG once in awhile — and, as our Gathering projects have short-lives (for now: Through the calendar year 2022) — perhaps this BLOG helps us all interact.
We look forward to hearing from you and to your joining us in the Gatherings once a month at Bernina World of Sewing in Raleigh.
To participate, it is intended that you have purchased at Bernina World of Sewing the book or pattern involved with this project and, as well, the fabric for the projects used during this Gathering was purchased at Bernina World of Sewing.
This Project started: January, 2022.
Hello – (From the Webmaster)
We have started this Weblog with the intent of providing the Gathering participants with a “sounding board” for their use.
Please remember that all Weblog entries are audited by me – however, this Weblog is NOT monitored by the store’s staff. Any technical questions, etc. are not meant for store’s-staff members: The Gathering is not a class – and, this Weblog is not a place to ask store staff questions!
Normally, you would start a “Reply” thread using the “Leave a Reply” box at the bottom of this Web page. Alternatively, you just click on the Reply button at the bottom of some existing entry.
Some reminders:
– To place a photo related to your efforts worked-on for the Gathering project, just send an eMail to me with the picture attached/included. I will figure out where you intend the photo for your particular Comment.
– Contact me by eMail if you have any problems / concerns with ANYTHING related to the Weblog. Thank you.
I wish you a GREAT 2022.
Good luck with your projects and
Regards,
David – Webmaster at Bernina World of Sewing

Hi, everyone!
We are glad that you found the BLOG. To make this work, it would be great if once in awhile you make a comment here or send in a photo for the BLOG. This way, we will all be “kept up” with each other’s progress – and problems/successes!
The first Project for the Daytime Gathering 2022 was aimed at each of us completing a Blooming 9-Patch piece. The second five-months (August to December) will be quilts selected from the book “Urban Quilting” by Wendy Chow.
The Evening Gathering will be creating pieces throughout the year from patterns that are part of ” the ART of the QUILT 2022 Calendar”.
To participate in these Gatherings, you must be signed up at the store (Bernina World of Sewing). Space is limited!
We will have the Daytime Gathering the third Tuesday morning of each month through the end of the 2022 – with a two month (June/July) break in the Summer.
The Evening Gathering will be the second Monday of each month through the end of the 2022.
We wish you some exciting / enjoyable sewing time and projects during the year!

Another successful month’s effort by we-all. Well done! The discussions, also, were fine: We “firmed up” a Pattern Choice approach (a pattern/BOM that YOU find that fits your 2023 plans) supplementing the 2023 plans for some of us who will choose to use patterns from the “Quilt Recipes” book by Jen Kingwell or another Jen Kingwell pattern. Which ever path a Gathering Participant takes in 2023: The path will be for the entire year; Daytime Gathering 2023 will be for the year — with June/July being “Summer Break” months (no meetings in June/July).

October
This month, just eight of us could fit the month’s meeting into our busy early-fall schedule. A good meeting, though, including some fine discussions plus “finalizing” some thoughts for the Daytime 2023 Gathering: A full year project instead of the two five month’s schedule we took in 2022. Stay tuned as final plans move forward.

September

It was great to see you and to be with you, again, as we move into the Fall Daytime Gathering. Good luck to us all as we start our Fall project(s).
Which Pattern to use? What fabric will be used? Aiming at a completed work before New Year….

Another hard-working / successful day in the Studio. Your work looks great.
We started discussions about Fall 2022 Daytime Gathering projects: I look forward to hearing about / discussing additional project possibilities: Time is flying – We will decide, soon.

January 2022
We had an absolutely perfect “First Gathering” Day at the Studio after two years of Zooming, etc.
Everyone was excited and ready to start this project’s Blooming 9-Patch quilt. It was fun to see everyone’s color combinations, talking to friends that we had not seen in awhile – and getting to know the new members of the group. Wonderful.
The new Studio works well; everyone had their own table with “social distancing” and the sun peeking through the window was an extra bonus.
I look forward to seeing you in February if not before.
Sonja
January 2022
Our first Evening Gathering of 2022 was held on Monday at the new Bernina Education Center. We had a great turnout and everyone commented on the spaciousness and the great lighting of the new space.
We listened to the Classic Rock station on Pandora, and Joan happened to have her dancing shoes on and broke out into a dance to the BeeGee’s.
A couple of members brought their Feathered Friends quilts to show, and everyone got a good start on their modern quilts from their “Art of the Quilt” calendar.
Our February meeting was scheduled for Feb 14 (Valentine’s Day) so we decided to delay one week in case any of us happen to be invited out to dinner.

All those little squares are really making a big impact :-).
Do you ever sew the squares together somewhat as you go (ie, before strips are sewn together as you suggested we do in class)?
Sue,
I never do. I wait until I have all my pieces.
Sonja
The Gathering in January and sending you a photo of my progress: Was my pleasure! I Finished up a few nine patches this week.
Georgene
I am having so much fun with this quilt. All the tips Sonja gave us really helped the fun factor. Plus, it’s such a delight to see the quilt “bloom.”
Sue
Progressing!

Moving forward, as shown via these two pictures: Firstly, my new design wall where I have done a seam in the middle to make it wider. I have really never had space for a design wall. This is hanging from the double doors of the closet in my sewing room and it cannot grow any larger because of walls and bookcases being in the way. There is a dowel in a casing at the top to keep it straight so it can be hung from two skirt hangers. We just figure out what we can.
Next, are shown the first four colors of the BL9 quilt on the new design wall.
Janet
Finally finished the Blooming 9 Patch from the 2021 Evening Gathering!

My design wall here is not large enough for all my blocks. I’m working on that today.

Here is mine , argh, I ran out of space! I still wanted David and Sonja to see it even tho last round not on. Started pinning and then will put on bed to finish. I have never used colors that were brown or tan. As I go out you can see I’m going to finish with blue and green.
Be safe and enjoy your summer.
